Applied econometrician (PhD) with work on intergenerational economic mobility in the UK, focusing on differentials between socio-ethnic groups with a particular interest in the white working-class boys. My work also touches on the intergenerational transmission of obesity in the UK analysing the impact of the socioeconomic gradient between gender and age groups.

Brian Varian is a Lecturer in Economics at Newcastle University. He received a PhD in Economic History from the LSE in 2017. He is Trustee of the Economic History Society and an Affiliate of the Centre for Economic History at the Australian National University. He has published in numerous journals including the Economic History Review and the European Review of Economic History. His research interests are mainly in the area of international trade during the period from 1870-1939.
